About Solo EtudesFor several decades, drum corps style rudimental drumming has influenced marching bands, orchestral snare drumming, and almost every drum set style. With continued growth of rudimental literature in contemporary, western, as well as global hybrid forms, there is a need for new rudimental literature to assist drummers in expanding their skills in the eloquent rudimental style. Written in the style of Wilcoxen, Markovitch, et al, Solo Etudes is designed to provide content-oriented rudimental study and performance material for a broad skill base, including drummers in high schools, colleges, drum corps, marching bands, percussion ensembles, teachers, and professionals. Solo Etudes can be used by teachers to help students build familiarity with rudimental figures, sticking, and accent phrasing, within unique musical contexts. Solo Etudes conditions players in executing rudimental figures as motives and rhythmic statements; and to think in symmetrical four and eight bar phrases, which is a great benefit in improvisation and composition. For the more advanced player, Solo Etudes can be used to maintain rudimental sticking and reading skills and can easily be personalized with dynamics for concept performance pieces in juries, concerts, and contests. |
